IntraHealth International announced today that Louise Winstanly—renowned bioethicist, attorney and University of North Carolina (UNC) faculty member—has been elected chair of its Board of Directors.

She joined the Board of Directors in June 2011. "What originally drew me to IntraHealth was the organization's commitment to health workers, who are really the essential component of every health care system," said Winstanly. "I look forward to supporting IntraHealth in my new role, and continuing to contribute my expertise and experience to help the organization's mission of ensuring that more people around the globe have access to health workers and high-quality health care."
Winstanly holds a master's degree in bioethics. She also earned a business law degree from London Guildhall University in the United Kingdom, where she graduated with honors. Originally from South Africa, Winstanly has practiced law in London, Tokyo and New York.

Winstanly's predecessor Barry Eveland has served on IntraHealth's board since the organization's inception in 2003. In March 2010 he became chair of the board, and will continue to serve as immediate past chair for another year.
