White House Examiner Visits IntraHealth-Supported Facilities in Rwanda
Last month, Adam Ross, the program examiner in the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, visited the Kibagabaga Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda, on his first visit to Africa since taking over the Global Health and Child Survival portfolio eight months ago,
The hospital is supported by the IntraHealth International-led HIV/AIDS Clinical Services Program (HCSP), a five-year program aiming to build capacity to support and manage Rwanda’s health networks while extending HIV/AIDS clinical services in four selected districts.
Ross’s trip was organized by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and USAID to showcase the clinical work of local partners on HIV/AIDS treatment and care.
While visiting the HSCP, Ross also focused on the hospital’s efforts to integrate family planning and HIV services as well to offer palliative care to AIDS patients. He was able to see first-hand Rwanda’s first pediatric palliative care center in the Kibagabaga Hospital, which was opened in August 2009 by IntraHealth, with the support of its partner Mildmay.
