IntraHealth Board Member Named to Forbes’ First Impact 30 List
Last week, IntraHealth Board Member Josh Nesbit was honored by Forbes magazine as one of the world’s top 30 social entrepreneurs. The Forbes list, called Impact 30, recognizes individuals who have applied innovative business solutions to solve social problems, and it is the first time Forbes has compiled this list in its 94-year history.
Nesbit is executive director and co-founder of Medic Mobile, a global nonprofit that advances health care networks in underserved communities using appropriate open source mobile technologies. Forbes recognized Nesbit as one of the few who makes a career out of solving problems, “unlike millions of us who recognize some kind of problem, feel a pang of hopelessness, and move on.”
As an undergraduate at Stanford University, Nesbit became inspired to start Medic Mobile after working with volunteer village health workers in Malawi. Offering an open source platform for large-scale, two-way text messaging, Medic Mobile has implemented projects in more than ten countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to improve communications between clinical staff and health workers in the field in such critical areas as patient records, referrals, emergency care, and commodity updates.
