Forty years after the Alma-Ata treaty was signed, stakeholders will come together in Astana for the Global Conference on Primary Health Care to renew the commitment to primary health care as a mechanism for achieving universal health coverage.
IntraHealth's delegation looks forward to showcasing our work to elevate the health worker's voice and importance in the field of primary health care and learning from attendees about efforts to achieve universal access to primary health services and reach the Sustainable Development Goals.

| Presenter(s): | In this session organized by the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, moderator Vince Blaser, director of the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, will lead panelists from IntraHealth, Living Goods, and Seed Global Health in a discussion to share crucial insights and lessons learned from the tools, innovations, and initiatives they have used to address key barriers to primary health care access in remote or neglected settings. Placing the frontline health worker’s perspective at the center of this discussion, the panel will focus on solutions and potential barriers to better support frontline health workers’ ability to deliver quality primary health services to all.

Achieving the Gender Dividend: Gender, the Health Workforce and the Future of Primary Health Care

| Presenter(s): | Organized by Women in Global Health and supported by Global Health Workforce Gender Equity Hub, RinGs, Jhpiego, Intrahealth, Frontline Healthworkers Coalition, and World Health Organization Health Workforce Unit, this session will explore the gender dividend and the SDG gains within grasp through investments into the health and social workforce. Two hundred million workers contribute to the health and social sector, one of the biggest and fastest growing employers of women. Seventy percent of the health and social workforce are women. Yet, half of women’s contribution to global health is unpaid.

Health Worker Voices Count to Improve Policies and Access to Primary Health Services

| Presenter(s): | In this video composite, a nurse in Uganda; a community health worker in the United States; and community, primary care doctors in Brazil and South Africa will share their accounts of providing essential health services to under-served communities and advocating for policy change. These health workers were trained in storytelling and advocacy by IntraHealth International and have since spoken at high-level events including at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the Global Forum on Human Resources for Health in Dublin, and Congressional briefings in Washington, DC. Their stories will give the personal context to decision-makers who are striving to improve access to primary health services.
