We at IntraHealth International send our condolences to the families and loved ones of the 298 passengers and crew members who lost their lives July 17 when Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine. We join our colleagues in the scientific and global health communities in mourning the loss of the AIDS researchers, activists, and workers who were en route to the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne. The collective impact of these losses represents a profound blow to all of us working together toward an AIDS-free generation. 

Join us at the 20th International AIDS Conference July 20-25, 2014 in Melbourne, Australia. AIDS 2014 is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV. The conference program is based on the theme Stepping Up the Pace and will offer opportunities for dialogue on the major issues facing the global response to HIV.

Karen Blyth presents a poster on how IntraHealth led the introduction and scale-up of a successful Coordinated Community Response (CCR) approach in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama. This tactic provides a comprehensive range of respectful, effective, and high-quality services for people at risk for, living with, or affected by HIV. In the context of long-term care and treatment needs, this presentation will delve into the successes and next steps of CCR.

"Improving the management of maternity and newborn care matters for women in high HIV prevalence countries"
In this poster presentation, Jennifer Wesson explores IntraHealth’s work to introduce the performance improvement (PI) approach, a team-based quality assurance process, to improve the stagnating rather than declining levels of maternal and newborn mortality in Namibia. The presentation will discuss how hospital teams established written action plans and trained doctors to achieve performance improvements.

"Transitioning Health Care Worker Support: A Resource Framework from the PEPFAR Experience"
To expand access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services, PEPFAR has been partially or wholly supporting health workers in over 30 countries. To assist PEPFAR country teams to work with stakeholders and transition health worker support to country-owned entities, USAID and the USAID- and PEPFAR-funded CapacityPlus project conducted key informant interviews in countries where transition was underway—Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, and Uganda. The interviews led to the development of the Health Care Worker Transition Framework and an interactive website that compiles key questions, case studies, lessons learned, tools, and resources to encourage PEPFAR country team engagement and discussions on transition. This poster presentation will be presented by Karen Blyth.

"Barriers and facilitators to male partner testing in prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) services in Ethiopia"
Jennifer Wesson presents a poster on IntraHealth’s efforts in Ethiopia to identify gender-based barriers to partner testing for HIV. The results of the gender assessment and discussion on ideas for more effective interventions that advocate for partner testing will be presented.
