Faith-based organizations (FBOs) play a vital role in providing health care in Africa. They own and operate 30 to 70 percent of health facilities in many countries and contribute greatly to the training of health workers. FBOs are especially effective in reaching rural, hard-to-reach, and underserved communities.
Leaders, managers, and frontline health workers confront similar health workforce challenges in the FBO context as do their counterparts in the public sector: high vacancy rates, low retention and productivity, inappropriate skills mix, and low motivation. The IntraHealth-led CapacityPlus project has engaged the FBO community in many countries to overcome these challenges through strengthened systems.
Join CapacityPlus for an interactive morning to present and share the role and best practices of FBOs and advance the dialogue for overcoming key challenges to scaling up Africa’s health workforce for better health services and outcomes.
