The Star Publishes Op-Ed by IntraHealth's Meshack Ndolo on Ebola and Health Systems
Meshack Ndolo, IntraHealth’s country director in Kenya, discusses in The Star, one of Kenya's daily newspapers, how national leadership, strong health systems, and prepared health workforces are fundamental to every country’s ability to protect the health of its citizens.
Excerpt:
The world is a global village, and so it helps to be prepared beyond the surveillance measures put at our ports of entry for the safety of citizen and management of the Ebola virus. It is as much a relief as it pains to note that health workers remain at the centre of supporting and managing patients with or suspected to have symptoms of Ebola. Some of them have paid with their lives.
My organisation is privileged to work in many countries, including some of the areas that are high risk. Our work is inherently centred on human resources for health, and so we are concerned and have a duty to express our care and support to all health workers putting their lives at risk to contain the Ebola virus.
