Expanding Rwanda's Commitment to Population, Family Planning, and Reproductive Health Program
IntraHealth supported Rwanda’s health care development through the Expanding Rwanda’s Commitment to Population, Family Planning, and Reproductive Health Program. Funded by a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, IntraHealth led this two-year, $1 million initiative.
The program aimed to improve the capacity of public- and private-sector organizations to lead and advocate for comprehensive, equitable, informed reproductive health services. Program partners included Rwanda’s Network of Parliamentarians for Population and Development, the Task Force on Population and Development, and the Imbuto Foundation—a Rwandan organization created by Jeannette Kagame, the First Lady of Rwanda, to advocate for and implement initiatives on health, education, and economic empowerment.
Building on the successes of IntraHealth’s extensive work in Rwanda, this program aimed to:
Encourage informed, evidence-based decision-making to ensure a supportive policy environment at all levels of the Rwandan government
Expand availability and awareness of family planning, access to emergency contraception, and availability, quality, and use of postabortion care services
