Gwen D. Sherwood, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF is Professor and Associate Dean for Global Initiatives at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing. She helped develop and lead the Robert Wood Johnson-funded Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) groundbreaking project to lead transformation of education and practice to prepare nurses to lead quality and safety improvements. Working with IntraHealth, she helped lead workforce development in Kenya through CapacityPlus and FunzoKenya. Her work has helped advance nursing in China, Macau, Thailand, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, and Sakhalin. Widely published, she is co-editor of Quality and Safety Education: A Competency Approach for Nurses and three books on reflective practice. Among many honors, she was recognized as Outstanding Alumnus at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and the University of Texas at Austin, the Special Award for International Interprofessional Education Award from the Prince Mahidol Conference, and the Mary Tolle Wright Founders Award for Excellence in Leadership. She was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2001 and the NLN Academy of Nurse Educators in 2014.
