Lois Schaefer is a nurse, educator, and master trainer with over 35 years of international experience in family planning, reproductive health, and human resources for health/health systems strengthening. Since 2004, Lois has served as senior technical advisor for human resources for health (HRH) in the Office of Population and Reproductive Health at USAID. She is currently the AOR for SHOPS Plus, the Global Health Bureau’s flagship private sector health project and previously served as AOR for Capacity and CapacityPlus, the bureau’s flagship projects for HRH. Prior to joining USAID, Schaefer was senior clinical training advisor and chief of the Clinical Services Division at Jhpiego. She has experience in diverse settings throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America and has worked extensively in the design, implementation, and evaluation of both in-service training and pre-service education systems. Schaefer received her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Virginia and a master of public health from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
