Community Prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission Project
The Community Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (CPMTCT) project worked with the Government of Ethiopia to scale up, integrate, and improve the quality of PMTCT and maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services.
A primary project aim was to build public-sector capacity for PMTCT/MNCH service integration and management. The project also focused on increasing access to quality services and ensuring community follow-up of HIV-positive pregnant women, mothers, and HIV-exposed infants.
Selected Initiatives

Improved the capacity of community- and facility-based health workers to provide quality MNCH and PMTCT care through enhanced in-service training
Improved coordination and referral networks between and among service providers at multiple levels (i.e., communities, health posts, health centers, and hospitals)
Supported preservice training for community health and parasocial workers)
Mobilized communities to encourage use of MNCH and PMTCT services
