Denis Ako-Arrey

Former Chief of Party, Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in Eastern Uganda

Denis Ako-Arrey was the chief of party for the Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in Eastern Uganda Activity. He has over 15 years of experience managing and leading multi-year international public health and developmental initiatives focusing on prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, other sexually transmitted infections; and health systems strengthening in Africa, Latin America, and North America.

His past experience includes technical, managerial, and operational leadership and direction that has ensured programmatic and financial integrity for different projects funded by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief in Cameroon. He has also provided leadership and oversight to an Africa CDC/African Union-funded health systems strengthening/laboratory capacity building project in ten countries in central Africa. Additionally, he has worked for the World Health Organization in Suriname, Republic of Mauritius, Republic of Guinea, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burkina Faso.

Prior to joining IntraHealth, Denis was responsible for expanding and managing the health portfolios of the United Nations International Organization for Migration across multiple provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of the Congo.

He holds a doctorate degree in public health from McMaster University, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Saskatchewan, and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Montreal.
